See you in 2021!

We at Michigan Pagan Festival are outraged by the marginalization, oppression, systemic racism, and lack of accountability by the people who are supposed to serve and protect our communities. Within the Pagan community, we need to acknowledge the importance of our Black sisters and brothers who often do not receive equitable treatment and face cultural appropriation, silencing, and discrimination.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL ISSUE. IT IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE.

#BlackLivesMatter
We want to be clear about the urgent need to take action to dismantle white supremacy in ALL of its forms. We are calling on you to do four things:
  1. We call upon all organizations and individuals including ourselves to start leading by example. Be the change you want to see in the world.
  2. Get real with yourself and others. Have an honest conversation with yourself about implicit bias. Do not excuse racist behavior, regardless of who the source is. STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR BAD BEHAVIOR.
  3. Open and honest two-way communication. This is how you find your voice. Hold family, friends, coworkers, and anyone you interact with on a daily basis accountable for their words, actions and deeds. Use this as a way to create the opportunity for education,
  4. Use your resources and your platform to take a stance. This is not the time to hide in fear from having difficult conversations. It is only through difficult conversations that we can grow.

Changing this narrative begins with standing up for what is right and using our voices, our actions, and our money to fight racist oppression. The only way to change this systemic problem is to speak out, elevate Black voices, and denounce the practice of police brutality. We see you, we love you, and your lives are valuable.
